Students will have academic commitments through the last Friday of the program until 4pm.

The application for the upcoming session opens on December 1, 2025.

The priority deadline is January 31st at 11:59 PM EST. All international students must apply by this deadline to be considered for admission. Applicants who submit by this deadline will begin receiving decisions after March 7, 2026.

The Final application deadline is February 28, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST.                            Applicants who submit by this deadline will  receive their decisions after April 7, 2026.

All applicants who apply by the priority deadline of January 31, 2026, 11:59 PM EST will begin receiving decisions after March 7, 2026. Applications submitted after the priority deadline will be reviewed have and their decisions rendered by April 7, 2026.

 Only United States citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible to apply for financial aid. A small amount of financial aid is given each year. Typically, these awards are based on merit and need. Students must complete the financial aid form in order to become eligible to receive financial aid. Click Here to complete the  Financial Aid Form.

Please note that international students are not eligible for financial aid.

All supplemental materials must be submitted by the deadline along with the application. Late submissions or materials will not be considered, nor accepted.

An employee discount is not applicable for this program.

Non-native English speakers must submit a test score to verify English language proficiency unless they have attended an English-medium school for two+ years by the time of enrollment, in which case the requirement is waived. If this applies to you, please email pennesap@boldsummers.com to indicate you are seeking this waiver before submitting your application. If scores are required, TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (DET) scores are accepted. 

Due to the competitive nature of this program, applicants must at least meet the following minimum scores:

  • TOEFL or At-Home TOEFL – 100 (iBT), 250 (CBT), or 600 (PBT)
    IELTS – 7
    Duolingo English Test (DET) – 130

NOTE: You must use the same email address for your ESAP application that you use to send you TOEFL score.

Test results must be valid when you submit your application. Letters are not accepted as a substitute for TOEFL. Click here to view how to submit your scores.

An applicant’s transcript should reflect their entire high school career thus far. For example, if an applicant has completed their 10th grade year their transcript should reflect their grades from 9th and 10th grade. High school in the United States includes grades 9th through 12th.

  • Have your school counselor/administrator send your official transcripts to “University of Pennsylvania – School of Engineering and Applied Science – Graduate Admissions & ESAP” through the Parchment online platform.
  • If your school does not use an electronic transcript service, please have your school counselor/administrator send your official transcripts to pennesap@boldsummers.com

An applicant’s essay should be no more than two pages.

A title page is not required. However, the header should include the student’s first and last name, email address, and date of birth. This essay must be composed in the Times New Roman font, size 12 with 1.5 spacing.

Students should apply to ESAP using an email address to which they have consistent access.

We recommend using a personal email address, not your school email, for your application and checking regularly for updates.

All applicants must hold a 3.0 GPA minimum, or equivalent, with a preference for strong performance in math and science subjects, as well as honors and advanced placement coursework.

Engineering Summer Academy at Penn

All applicants must be at least 15 years of age by the start of the program.

This means your application is complete and is in the process of being reviewed.

  • Unofficial transcripts can be accessed through Path@Penn.
  • Official transcripts can be ordered from Student Registration and Financial Services for a fee.

Student who successfully complete the course will earn 0.5 Credit Units which typically translates to 1.5 credits on a 3-point scale. Students planning to transfer this credit to their future undergraduate record or institution should be aware that transfer credit is awarded at the discretion of the institution, including the University of Pennsylvania
